Looking Back at Thanksgiving 2023

A message from the Organizing Committee

“King Nebuchadnezzar to all peoples, nations, and languages, that dwell in all the earth: Peace be multiplied to you!  It has seemed good to me to show the signs and wonders that the Most High God has done for me.  How great are His signs, how mighty His wonders! His kingdom is an everlasting kingdom, and His dominion endures from generation to generation.”  ~ Daniel 4:1-3

King Nebuchadnezzar just had his whole world rocked! He asked three young men to worship him and instead they chose to trust in their God. The king threw them into a fiery furnace to punish them, but they came out of the furnace unharmed. Not a hair on their heads was singed!  There wasn’t a hint of smoke on their clothes. That led Nebuchadnezzar to praise their God.

The Organizing Committee for Feeding Farmville joins Nebuchadnezzar and all of creation in praising God because once again He rocked our world! Once again He did what no individual, no single church or organization could do. He brought a community of people together to share His love with a thousand of our neighbors. We did that by showing up at their homes on Thanksgiving to spend time with them and give them a spectacular Thanksgiving meal.

If you’re into details, we sliced and packed

  • 185 pumpkin pies,
  • 256 pounds of turkey, and
  • 200 pounds of sweet potatoes.

Six hundred volunteers, and 60 companies, organizations and churches, volunteered so that 1,000 meals could be shared.

We give thanks for a God who is bigger than all of the brokenness in our world and for each of you who heard His call and shared of your time and gifts. Your sacrifice for your neighbors makes a profound impact on their lives.

Here is just one expression of gratitude we received this year from Joan.

“Thank you so much for being able to provide our Thanksgiving dinner to us. It meant the world to us. My husband was in the hospital; I brought him home on Thanksgiving Day, and to have those wonderful meals ready was a Godsend. It certainly made our Thanksgiving a thanks giving.”

God's not done! What we did for Thanksgiving God wants to do every day of the year. It’s absolutely spectacular! Nothing is too big for God. We encourage you to keep looking to see what God is doing.

Finally, we share with you this list of those who partnered with us this year. May each name on our list be a reminder of a great God at work in our midst.
